Your vision is important.
When it comes to vision health, we often take our eyes for granted. We use them for reading, observing, and navigating through life. For something so important, their health should be a top priority, which is why you should consider seeing an optometrist.
So how often should you see your eye doctor? Factors such as age and current eye health can determine this, but there is a good formula to work with when it comes to taking a visit to your optometrist. When it comes to your eyes, maintaining their health can be simple and benefit you in the long run.

What does an Optometrist do?
An optometrist will see you in order to detect defects in vision. They also check for signs of injury, ocular diseases (diseases of the eye) or any other abnormalities. This could also be tied to issues with your general health, as certain diseases (such as diabetes) can affect your vision.
An optometrist can detect if you’ll need glasses or contacts for any vision impairment you may have. If you suffer from issues such as chronic dry eye, they can also assist you.
How often should I see them?
If you currently do not have any known vision impairments or ocular illnesses, take a look at the below chart.
39 and younger: Once every 5 years.
40 – 65 years of age: Every two years
65 and older: Once every year
You’ll want to have your eyes checked every year if you wear glasses or contact lenses, have a genetic history of eye disease, or have a condition that puts you at risk for eye disease (such as diabetes). Also, as you get older, your ocular health can suffer, so it is important that you also see your optometrist at least once a year.
